Our Process, Plainly Put

A new crack or a hallway with a fresh slope raises questions long before anyone wants a sales visit. Foundation Repair Greenville NC was set up to answer them first: what signs can mean, what work costs nationally and which permits apply. When you want someone at the house, one request goes to one local foundation specialist.

Our guides grow from local conditions around Greenville, NC. In Pitt County, series such as Goldsboro and Rains hold a seasonal high water table close to the surface through winter and spring, and permits come from the City or the County by address. Expect no cost to ask, one specialist instead of a string of calls, and a written estimate if work is proposed.

Each Step in Order

  1. You fill in the form. Your address, contact details and what you have seen.
  2. We read it. Then we send it on to a single local foundation specialist near you.
  3. The specialist reaches out. Any visit is arranged between the two of you.
  4. Inspection and any estimate. The specialist checks the walls, crawl space or slab and floors, then writes up any proposed work. The next step is your choice.

Questions to Put to a Foundation Pro

We don't license, inspect or rate the specialist, and we don't vouch for it either, so run these checks yourself with any contractor before signing. Treat what follows as general information, not legal advice.

  • License on bigger jobs. North Carolina's general contractor license starts at $40,000. On a job that size, ask for its license number and run a search for it with the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors. Smaller jobs fall outside that state law, which makes your own checks of contract, references and permit count for more.
  • A written contract. It should spell out the price and scope, when work starts and finishes, and how payments fall due. Put any change in a signed change order.
  • Who pulls the permit. Foundation work is load-bearing, so state law calls for a building permit at any cost. Inside city limits, that is the City of Greenville's Inspections Division (252-329-4466). Homes outside city and town limits normally go to Pitt County Permitting & Inspections (252-902-3150); ask the specialist whether it is registered with the County.
  • The engineer question. Find out whether an engineer's report is in the plan, and ask the permit office whether your permit needs drawings from an engineer.
  • A detailed scope. The paperwork should state the count, kind and location of every pier or support.
  • Who handles plumbing or wiring. Under North Carolina law that work takes a licensed plumber or electrician. Ask which one will cover any sump, drain or wiring item.
  • Warranty and references. Ask for warranty terms in writing and whether a future buyer inherits them, and get a few local references.
  • Canceling a financed deal. North Carolina's three-day right covers only a financed job that a seller pitched in person at your home; written notice before midnight on the third business day after signing cancels it. Other contracts may carry no such right, so read the cancel terms first.

Where the Contractor Takes Over

Our part ends with the request. We take it, answer general questions and pass it to one independent local foundation specialist. Every inspection, estimate, contract, permit step and repair after that is the specialist's. We do no plumbing or electrical work and offer none, our price ranges are national figures, and we don't speak for the City of Greenville, Pitt County or the State.

Start the Process Here

Fill in the form with your address and a short note about what you've seen. Once the specialist has it, any visit is the specialist's to arrange with you.
